"Upon intercepting, the rider abandoned it and started running away, firing aimlessly. In the process, he shot PC Bernard Koome in the neck," the police said.
Officers pursued the criminal, who continued firing into the air as he was escaping, but he escaped using another motorbike.
Police have since recovered two spent cartridges from the scene as well as a Ceska pistol magazine loaded with 4 rounds of 9mm.
His escape was captured in an amateur video that shows him ordering the owner of the motorbike and his passenger off the bike at gunpoint before using it to flee the scene.
